Upper School

The Upper School at Allen is committed to providing students with an excellent college preparatory experience. Allen graduates enter college with the skills and knowledge necessary for success. An aggressive curriculum grounded by a tradition of moral development and social responsibility instills in the student the scholarship and empathy necessary for life as an intelligent, compassionate, and discerning individual.

The Upper School academic program is an interdisciplinary curriculum that emphasizes higher order taxonomy while reinforcing objective knowledge and test taking skills.

In the last two years 10 Allen Academy students have received various AP Scholar Awards.

Enrollment in AP courses is determined by academic department policies and/or prerequisite courses.

Due to our small student population, not all AP courses are offered each year.

GPA

Allen Academy uses a traditional 4.0 GPA reporting scale. Plus and minus symbols are used to designate high and low ranges.

Students that earn a 70 or better in an AP course receive a 1.0 GPA bump for the course.

A number of extra-curricular activities are scheduled by the school to provide students an opportunity to explore their passions and develop the social skills necessary for successful interpersonal relationships. If we have a request from students for additional AP course options, and there are enough interested students to make a class, we will make an effort to recruit a qualified teacher for that class so it can be offered.

Additionally, all Upper School students are required to complete 10 hours of community service during each year of high school.
