“Thank you Marissa Grequrek” from Mrs. Malcuit’s Auxiliary Class

Mrs. Malcuit’s homeroom class enjoyed completing a Mad Lib written by Marissa Gregurek, a senior in the Creative Writing Club. Students were asked to give nouns, verbs, and adjectives to complete a story. The students did not know what the story was about until it was completed. What a fun way to practice grammar, “Thank you Marissa!”

It was a scary Halloween night. The ghost was full in the sky and all the phantoms dressed up in spooky costumes. Arianna was a pretty princess while Landon wore a scary bear mask.

Dear Deer

Students in Mrs. Malcuit’s third grade language arts classes have notice our resident family of Allen deer that tend to play on the playground in the mornings. We wondered why they chose Allen as their home. Which started us thinking about all the things Allen has to offer. Students listed Fall Fest, Advisory Day, Special Programs, Holiday Gatherings, Enrichment Week, RRO, and much more. So, we decided to write letters to our friends, the deer, and ask them what makes Allen so attractive to them.

Let's Enter the Race!

Students in Mrs. Malcuit’s language arts and reading classes are wrapping up their unit on Stone Fox by designing their own dogsled race t-shirts and paragraphs using the 5 W’s (Who, What, When, Where, and Why) to describe their race. We can’t wait until Monday to share the final t-shirt designs and writing drafts!

Our next book to read in class is titled Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing by Judy Blume.

Great Editors in Mrs. Malcuit’s Class

Each day students in Mrs. Malcuit’s language arts class take a few minutes at the beginning of class to practice their editing skills. They proof read and correct paragraphs on a variety of topics. These activities are designed to help students master and apply language mechanics and expression through focused, daily practice. Instead of practicing skills in a series of random exercises, the students practice language skills in paragraphs that represent the types of text that they encounter in their daily reading and writing activities across the curriculum.

Take A LOOK Around Allen!

In Mrs. Malcuit’s language arts class, students have been learning about the writing trait - Ideas. This week we have been working on making our ideas for writing projects more specific, using greater details, and using descriptive words. Students were asked to take a look at all the new construction going on around our campus. Next, the students were to write a journal entry describing the specific things they saw and what it means to them as a student at Allen.

The Challenge of a Lifetime!

Third grade students in Mrs. Malcuit's reading classes began the book, Stone Fox by John Reynolds Gardiner this week. The story begins with the introduction of Little Willy and his grandfather. Little Willy has a big job to do. When his grandfather falls ill, it is up to WIlly alone to save their potato farm from the tax collector. But where can a ten-year-old get five hundred dollars in a hurry? Then Willy sees the poster for the National Dogsled Race.
