Fourth Graders are off to a great start!

We here in fourth grade are so excited to begin a new school year with a wonderful group students, including a few new additions to the Allen family! In the first week, in addition to becoming familiar with the policies, procedures, and expectations for fourth grade, students kicked off their Language Arts curriculum by writing Bio Poems as a way of introducing themselves to their classmates (and their teacher!). After drafting, revising, and editing their poems, students created a finished piece and put them on display in the hallway outside of the classroom. In addition to working on improving their writing skills, this was a great way to get to know our new group of fourth graders!

As part of our Advisory Day at the end of the first week of school, the students had the opportunity to review our LS Core Value, the Rights, Responsibilities, and Outcomes (R.R.O.) program, and participate in a variety of getting-to-know-you and team-building exercises with their classmates and teachers. Whether it was untying the human knot, identifying and discussing positive character traits and how to be a role model, or sharing any number of interesting (and sometimes humorous!) facts about themselves, the kids did a great job of giving 110% at all times!

In Social Studies, students learned about the various social sciences that they will consider over the course of the year as they explore the different regions of our country. Students practiced taking on the roles of Economist, Geographer, Historian, and Political Scientist to investigate artifacts they had found that they believe would be of interest to each scientist. As a final way to help reinforce all that they had learned about the social sciences and the people who study them, students worked in groups to write a “Social Scientists Rap” to share with their peers. The week wrapped up with two fantastically entertaining and educational performances by the respective homeroom classes!
