making decisions regarding student's character

Yesterday as the students and staff walked back from the football field assembly, two upper school girls were seen holding on to each other in a very innocent, friendly kind of way (their fingers were locked together).  Behind them some middle school students giggled and laughed and pointed fingers at them.  Is it important to seize the moments when we have opportunities to teach our students about not judging others or having respect for all, or are there times when this negative behavior needs to be overlooked?

HOMEWORK WORKS!

Some of the most important life skills a person can master happen when homework is done well.  Organization, Time Management, Prioritizing, Critical Thinking and Self-Disciplilne are some of these fringe benefits.  In addition, reading comprehension and speed can improve dramatically; the higher order thinking skills of analyzing, synthesizing, and creating are developed, and our kids learn!!

BACK IN TIME

The AP English Language and Composition course taught to eleventh graders has two objectives:  teach the skills required to pass the AP Lang and Comp test in May and engage the students in a survey of American Literature.

Well, as we studied "The Age of Faith," the famous Puritan preacher Jonathan Edwards (aka Dr Roger Schultz, TAMU professor) showed up and gave us an opportunity to sample part of his most famous sermon "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God."

What's Happening in AP English III

When an individual learns a root word, he or she can extrapolate several "real" words from that one root.  Knowledge of Latin and Greek roots can benefit a student when reading because the root plus context clues may give him or her the necessary  information to make sense of the material.  Consequently, it is with great pleasure that the YODAS from English III Advanced Placement Roots Test are announced:  LONNIE ALLEN, JAMES BRIEN, JACOB CLANTON and JAY MARTIN.  Collectively they had four hundred questions, and together they missed only ten. WOW!!!
