Allen students link community to local non-profit agencies through fundraiser

During the last two weeks of September, Allen freshmen Jake Georgiades and Carter Kacal sold more than 100 paper links as a fundraising project for the United Way of the Brazos Valley. The links will be chained together and stretched across Kyle Field at the Cross Town Showdown match-up between A&M Consolidated and Bryan High on October 7.
The students are members of the United Way’s Youth Leadership Cabinet (YLC), a group that promotes civic involvement and responsibility. This year, 36 students from A&M Consolidated High School, Allen Academy, Bryan Collegiate, and Rudder High School are participating in the program.
The more than $100 Jake and Carter raised will be added to the money brought in by the rest of the YLC and will benefit local non-profit agencies. Last year, the students participating in the YLC raised more than $6,000. Their funds went to Health for All, Project Unity, Brazos Valley Rehab, The Prenatal Clinic, Aggieland Pregnancy Outreach, Voices for Children, 2-1-1 Texas, MHMR, Twin City Mission, and the Brazos Valley Food Bank.
